wider thinking / sharper riding

Connecting the dots

The GR project has grown out of an in-depth analysis
of race data and direct experiences from high-level gravel races. The objective was clear: to create a wheel able to support high speeds over rough terrain, whilst maintaining control, precision and a concrete aerodynamic advantage.

Inner rim width 30 mm

The heart of the project is the new 2-Wave Rim with
an inner rim width of 30 mm, and mini-hook, designed
to work in perfect synergy with wide tyres, optimising their shape, contact patch and stability.

2-Wave Rim

The variable wave profile, with a height of 47/52 mm, improves air flow management and reduces the yaw moment and frontal drag.

From 45 mm

The wheel-tyre system has been developed to work in perfect synergy with 47-50 mm wide tyres, which have not only become standard in today’s fastest gravel races but are also the ideal solution for every day rides, where control, efficiency and comfort make the difference.

* Specific 45 mm tyres, that in certain contexts have revealed themselves to be technically valid and to perform very well, are also compatible.

Cup & Cone

The design of the hub follows the minimalist lines seen on the Speed wheels, with Cup & Cone technology. The ball bearings roll on through axles with adjustment ring, to achieve an extremely precise preload and maximum smoothness.

2-Way Fit™

Both models use the 2-Way Fit™ technology with non-drilled rim bed, ready for tubeless installation without tubeless tape, for a perfectly sealed, more solid structure, which ensures long-term reliability.

Wide benefit

The larger air volume of the system allows for a wider adjustment range, to optimise the setup and find the best balance between speed, control and stability in relation to terrain, conditions and riding style.

Rim-tire
interface

A narrow rim constricts wide tires, creating
the “lightbulb effect”
and compromising performance.
A wide rim, instead, improves airflow interaction and enhances overall aerodynamics.

+ Speed

Precise Cornering Control

A narrow rim can distort the tire shape, reducing grip and stability, and increasing the risk of “burp effect”, leading to less predictable handling. A wider internal channel allows the tire to maintain its optimal shape, enhancing the contact patch, stability, and overall performance even under low pressure on cornering loads.

Rolling
Resistance

A tire’s footprint affects rolling resistance:
narrow tires flatten more, increasing deformation, while wide tires minimize flattening, reducing resistance and allowing higher speed
with less effort.

+ Control

Hooks safety

At Fulcrum, we favor mini-hooks on our gravel rims for two reasons: they ensure broad tire compatibility and provide maximum safety, even if tires are inflated beyond the recommended pressure range.

Two models, a single vision

The Soniq GR uses FF80 fibre, which is less competition-orientated compared to FF100, but
that is in any case able to provide excellent overall performance. The wheel is completed with sealed cartridge bearings hubs, with adjustable preload, and round spokes.
